Ken Faulks - Canadian Plein Air Painter - 2011 British Columbia and Alberta Painting Trip

Well... here it is, late October and I'm still thinking about putting a plein air painting trip together.  I've done the spring and summer trips, but never this late in the year.

My plan is to travel through British Columbia and Alberta and, along the way, painting as many plein air works as I can.  This may prove to be quite the challenge.  The weather is pretty unpredictable this time of year, to say the least.

On the positive side, I have a few places (other than motels) to stay. Fortunately, I have some family sprinkled through BC and Alberta, so that will come in handy for me, but not so much for them.  ; ) "Beware family members... I may come knocking!"

I've also had some corporate support for the trip. Darryl, Dylan and Sean, owners of Malibu Motors in Victoria BC, have given me a mini van in trade for a painting I'll do on the trip.

Kym Hill, owner of Mercurio Gallery in Victoria BC, is a big supporter of this trip and definitely been lighting a fire under my butt to get away for some serious painting time.  She was instrumental in helping me make "the van deal" with the guys at Malibu Motors.

I hope to get a small handful of people interested in purchasing some works from the trip as well.  All help in getting the trip going.

August and September were the months I had originally slated for teeing up this trip, and getting out on the road, but some commercial commercial art work come in the door, and with the constant need to make a bit of doe, well... I just couldn't turn that down.

As I write this, the first page to this new painting trip site, I hear the rain outside my studio windows. It's absolutely pouring here in Victoria BC.  I sure hope this isn't a sign of things to come.  Well.. I'm sure it is, but I do hope there will be enough dry days over the course of my trip. After all, paintings need to get painted.

I've got to sort out a few things before going, but plan to leave Victoria before the end of October, and yes... that would be October of this year...   ; )

My plan to document the trip through paint, photography, and web media. I'm taking my Nikon camera with me, as well as my Apple laptop.

Photography is obviously a great medium for capturing landscape and the many moments along the way. It will be a great compliment to the painted portion of the trip. My laptop will also be used on a daily basis, processing photos, and writing content for this site.

I'll be posting new content almost every day of the trip, so please keep checking in to see what's up.

I can't forget to take my umbrella!!!
